Features That Every Home Bar Needs

Posted on: 28 July 2018

There are many features you can add to your custom home bar. However, there are certain features that almost every home bar should consider installing if you want your home to be the life of the party.

A Durable Bar Surface

Your bar will need a durable bar surface. Bars can get a lot of use and a worn down bar surface might add character, but it can also cause your bar surface to look terrible. Also, make sure to have enough of a workspace so that you are able to perform your work as a home bartender. Have a place where you can mix drinks, slice lemons and fill a bowl with nuts. You may need a lower bar counter for drink mixing.

When you're doing something more complicated than pouring drinks, you'll need the utensils necessary for mixing various drinks. Make sure to have an easily-accessible drawer that allows you to access shakers, stir sticks, and olive picks.

To make your job as a bartender easier, make sure to have plenty of storage, so you have places to put your bar supplies. Cabinets will give your bar a more permanent look and can be very versatile. An easier alternative to cabinets is a bookshelf.

Glassware Racks

Always have a place to store your glassware. A great feature is to install racks that allow you to hang martini glasses upside down. Storing glasses upside down reduces how much dust will accumulate in the glasses, reducing cleanup.

Shelves and Wine Racks

Bottles can be tricky to store because many bottles come in different sizes. Construct a shelf with enough space to take different bottle sizes into consideration. If you own a bottle with a cork, make sure to store the bottle horizontally to keep the cork from drying out which would ruin the wine. For this reason, wine racks are essential.

Seating Space

While not essential, your home bar should have seating space. The seating space of a bar is a natural place for people to congregate. However, if you already have plenty of places to stay in the general area and if you think your guests will not use the bar stools, seating might not be necessary.

If there is something specific you are looking for in a bar, consider purchasing a custom home bar kit. These kits allow you to assemble and customize the exact type of bar you need.

A Grownup Chair

When I was a little girl, my grandparents surprised me with a small wooden rocking chair. This adorable petite chair was painted pristine white. At night, I would sit in my rocking chair and read picture filled books while the adults in the family sat in their own comfortable chairs. Having a piece of furniture that perfectly accommodated my small short body made me feel like an adult. If your child struggles to climb onto the adult furniture in your home, consider purchasing him or her a child size chair. You might be amazed at how much your little one would cherish his or her own piece of furniture. On this blog, you will learn how to shop for the perfect chair for your child.
