If your mattress is more than a few years old, it's time for a new one. You might not realize this, but mattresses aren't designed to last forever. Eventually, your mattress will lose it's ability to provide you with a good nights rest. In fact, if you try to more your old mattress, you might find that it feels a bit heavier than it did when it was new. That's because it's filled with dust mites and dead skin now. Now's the time to head to the local mattress store and pick out a new bed for yourself. Here are three tips that will help you pick out the best mattress.
Give it a Test Run
If you're going to buy a new mattress, you've got to give it a test run. You can't just pick a mattress based on sight. You've got to actually lay down on a few mattresses and see how they feel. Before you head to the mattress shop, be sure you're dressed comfortably. You'll want to be able to really stretch out and get a feel for the mattresses you're testing.
When testing mattresses, the first thing you want to do is determine the firmness that you want. Lay down and spread out on all the different options that are available for firmness. You may think that you need an extra firm mattress. However, once you test them out, you might find that a softer mattress is better for you.
Just because you have a certain sized mattress in your room right now doesn't mean you need to stick with that size. When testing mattresses, try a variety of sizes. You might find that you're more comfortable in a queen-size rather than a double.
In addition to size and firmness, you'll also want to consider the top of the mattress. Pillow-top mattresses provide an added layer of comfort to your sleeping surface. Spend some time testing the different types of pillow top mattresses.
If you like to read in bed, but you don't like to prop yourself up with pillows, it's time to consider an adjustable bed. One of the benefits of an adjustable bed is that you can relax in a variety of positions before drifting off to sleep. If you snore, or have other breathing-related sleep issues, an adjustable bed gives you the ability to sleep in a semi-upright position. Best of all, you can purchase a model that allows you and your partner to adjust each side separately.
Know the Return Policy
Before you purchase a mattress, make sure you know the return policy. You want to be able to return your mattress should you find out that it's not a good fit for you. Most mattress stores have some type of return policy, however, you'll need to understand the specifics before you purchase. That way, you're not stuck with a mattress that isn't quite what you wanted.Share
